GameTap Mixtapes is a weekly look at the history of video game soundtracks and an exploration of the GameTap’s catalog. This week’s featured games, Phantasy Star III, and Interstate ‘76 both feature great soundtracks that come from two wildly different perspectives. Phantasy Star III, while not the best game in the series offers one of my favorite soundtracks in the Phantasy Star franchise with an epic, classical score… or about as classical as you’re going to get on the Genesis. On the other end of the spectrum the funk-rock themes of Interstate ‘76 were at the forefront of CD-ROM gaming and it was one of the first games I recall playing that featured an original score recorded by studio musicians. Check out the featured soundtrack after the jump.
