James Newton’s The Sega Top 50 was a very personal countdown of the blogger’s fifty favorite Sega games, which concluded a couple days ago. Newton has extremely high credentials, as far as Sega fans go, with personal anecdotes of writing many fan letters and memories of the brief but brilliant time that Sega pretty much ruled the world.
The choices get a bit strange in places but, remember, this is a personal top 50, and not some super mega year-end IGN.com please-Digg-this-story blowout extravaganza. I don’t get the impression that Newton was trying for objectivity, I think he just wanted to talk about some of his life-long loves, which works for me!
This was literally a series of fifty blog posts over the course of about three months, so I’ll provide you with some links to get started. Read the series introduction and explanation here, a recap of #s 2-50 here, and the #1 choice here.
Of course, some of these games are on GameTap! Hit the jump to see them, with appropriate links.

Wow, thank you very much for the link and kind words!
I understand there’s some odd choices in there - no Sonic 2! - but like you said, it was a personal list. It took me about two years to whittle it down to the list I posted (in fact, it was originally a top 100!) but I’m glad I managed to convey some of the passion I have for Sega games.
Thanks again for the link, I really appreciate it!
No problem James, I really enjoyed the series!
