It has been said before that the best things in life are free, but no one includes fine print. “Best things in life are free… only for a limited time, and while supplies last, some restrictions apply see Terms and Conditions for details.” Today we will be removing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadows Of Chernobyl from the free pack. Sorry for the short notice but the game has been free for 3 more weeks that originally announced. Free users are welcome to subscribe to the Premium Pack and continue where they left off.

Alternatively you can purchase S.T.A.L.K.E.R. from the GameTap shop for $19.95, be aware your save game may not carry over from the GameTap version. (I haven’t had the opportunity to test this)

Stalker, at least the boxed version, saves games under STALKER-SHOC in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents (XP) or C:\Users\Default\Documents (Vista). I think that means it should be outside GameTap’s encryption, and still available if you install a non-subscription version.

Yes, I did learn this as a result of formatting and reinstalling Windows. No, I didn’t think to back up the Shared Documents, seeing as I’m the only user. Oh well, it will give me a chance to play through again with the “Stalker Complete” mod installed :)

There was a mismatch between the website and the GameTap player. For more information, please see this help article that is on the freelancer page.
