pants her maroon fava

As you may or may not know, former GameTap writer Doug Perry posted an article on his blog divulging the fact that GameTap holds the rights to release Sega’s highly prized Panzer Dragoon Saga. Shortly thereafter Joystiq picked up on this story, reported it and launched a campaign to “mobilize the masses”. This information had a lot of folks scratching their heads and wondering “what the hell is GameTap thinking?”, hopefully I can give some insight as to why you are not currently playing PDS.

We fully recognize the value of Panzer Dragoon Saga, but there are some challenges in the way of us releasing the title. The biggest of which is the development time required for Saturn games. We are faced with the choice of using our resources to develop projects that benefit a tremendous number of users or use them developing a single title for a much more targeted audience. But perhaps the audience for a title like Panzer Dragoon Saga is larger than we think. So we’re asking you to let us know, use the poll posted below to voice your opinion. I can’t make any promises but if there is a significant amount of interest, Panzer Dragoon Saga will become a higher development priority for GameTap.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Panzer Dragoon series, both Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Zwei are currently available on GameTap.

I would so pay for a downloadable version separate from GameTap, and it would benefit even non-subscribers.

How about working on a way of delivering your content that dosn’t make me want to rip my eyes out? Web 2.0 is so last year. Return of a binary client of some sort please.

I would love for a bunch of console RPGs to be released, especially Square or Enix ones, and this would be a good start.

I’ve been wanting to find a way to play panzer dragoon saga for so long now without having to cough up the hundreds of dollars it would take to get it from eBay. Since I already have subscription I would obviously prefer that, but *sigh* if you force me, I would pay extra money for it.

I paid over a hundred dollars for my copy, and it was worth every cent. It is my very favorite game ever of all time.

id prefer a purchaseable downloadable version, but id pay for a month or two of sub to play it as well. save me having to dig my copy out of the attic (arent you all jealous now? :) )

Please do this!!!

Do it now! Best game ever. I still have my original copy and I would buy it just to support it.

Dear Mr Gametap,

I would gladly subscribe to you or pay for downloading, even though I have the original game. I have never known a game with a fanbase as large and diverse as PDS,
which is even more remarkable given the limited number of copies worldwide. On release it received critical acclaim & superlative reviews from the media.

Which would suggest a re-release would be well received by the existing Gametap userbase & would draw the PDS fanbase to you.

I have posted this link on the Facebook group page and would expect this to be discussed at length in many forums & fan websites.

While we’re talking Saturn, let me be greedy and also bring up the fact you guys also have NiGHTS and may or may not have been the reason behind the updated PS2 port of the original NiGHTS staying in Japan.

» tsrblke2 said: May 15, 2009

@LostSkeleton,

I don’t think they have that much power my friend.

Saturn emulation? it would be a wish come true. there are so many gems on that system i would love to play like the original NiGHTS, Dragon Force, Virtual On, Fighters Megamix, Last bronx and of course the panzer dragoons.

An emulator with almost 100% accuracy/compatibility already exists; it’s called SSF.

» Jason Rainwater said: May 15, 2009

I’d be willing to toss down $30-50 for an emulated copy of PDS. (Especially if it could offer some nice AA and other filtering options to smooth out the Saturn graphics)

I would buy the download and keep my subscription! What a dream this would be!! I do hope they do this and maybe it will bring us Nights too!! I do hope they are hearing us!

Would love to see this beautiful game remade some how and always wondered why sega never got around to doing it. Would really like to see it ‘revamped’ tho you know? graphics smoothed out n stuff. Would make a great addition to XBLA.

» Alex Hatzberger said: Aug 6, 2009

I would join gametap AND download a copy of the game. I think that if more websites were to rerelease old gems like this, they would find that there is a HUGE interest.

I’d pay a £100 for a revamped xbox/PS3 version any day! (I already have the Saturn version and it IS the best RPG ever).
